Our Mission

Based in Troy, NY -- the home of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) -- our mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we seek to carry out this mission in two, main areas:

(1) Discipling students and young adults

(2) Serving those in need

  • Discipling Students and young adults

Our proximity to RPI puts us in a great position to disciple both students (undergraduate, doctorate, international) and graduates. We place an emphasis on in-depth study of Scripture and its application to everyday life (Matthew 4:4, 2 Timothy 3:16-17). According to the Pew Research Center, of Christians in this age group, only 15% read Scripture on a weekly basis. So, this focus is greatly needed!

We offer discipleship to students and young adults in two ways:

    (1) One-on-one discipleship

    (2) The Edify Young Adult Ministry

  • serving those in need

Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:31-46 are a challenge to serve those in need.  In the famous “Sheep and the Goats” passage, it’s clear that providing things like food and clothing to those in need is one of the marks of someone who has true, saving faith in Jesus (see also James 2:14-17).

Through our "Edify Serves" initiative, we recruit people to serve those in need in Troy -- and we don't just recruit Christians!  In addition to partnering with local churches, we like to partner with other groups as well (such as fraternities).  Our hope is that -- as we serve alongside "not-yet-Christians" -- they "may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

We most frequently partner with His Table, which has served a weekly, community meal in Troy for over 35 years!  For a history of His Table, visit /our-mission/his-table-a-history

Though many people may only serve there for a season, the ultimate hope is that they will be inspired to a lifetime of serving as they, too, hear Jesus’ beckoning call in Matthew’s Gospel.
